Harrow Times: Deaf club celebrates birthday

A club has celebrated five years helping deaf people from across the borough.

More than 150 people helped celebrate Harrow United Deaf Club’s (HUDC) fifth anniversary at the C&L Country Club on Saturday.

During the day there were performances from singer Omoyele Thomas, speeches from the club’s patrons, the ‎Deputy Lieutenant of Harrow John Purnell and Margaret Purnell and dance performances from television Star Karan Pangali.

The day also marked the launch of the organisation’s new websitewww.hudc.org.uk, which the club hopes will attract more people to get involved with future events.

President of HUDC Asif Iqbal MBE, said: “It has been fantastic achievement the last five years and Harrow United Deaf Club has achieved so much and the hard work has paid off.

“A massive thanks to everyone who supported the event including our performers who donated their time.

“Also everyone who were involved in organising the event – we couldn’t have done it without your support.”

HUDC was previously called Harrow Asian Deaf Club and changed its name in October 2013 to welcome new members from the borough’s different communities.
