It was with our great sadness that Mehtab have decided to step down from her role as a Co-Vice Chair of Harrow United Deaf Club at the AGM on Saturday 3rd September 2016.
Mehtab Hussein, a parent of a deaf child first came across HUDC in 2009 when looking for a suitable deaf club for both herself and her teen deaf son. Mehtab became inspired by HUDC work and was delighted when her son (of Hatch End school) was selected to showcase his art work of the Queen at the Diamond Queen Jubilee event at HUDC. It was then that Mehtab met so many inspirational Deaf role models by networking at HUDC, and put herself forward to be involved in HUDC Committee in 2013 and then after, was elected as co-Vice Chair in September 2015.
Asif Iqbal MBE, President of HUDC explained: “Everyone found Mehtab so warm and welcoming, always smiling and extremely dedicated in her work, fund-raising to support HUDC. Also as a level 3 BSL communicator for Hatch End school, she continues to spread the word of HUDC’s events to her colleagues, BSL & Deaf students and BSL communicators. She is a fantastic asset to HUDC and we are sad that she decided to step down. However she will continue to visit HUDC”
Following Asif’s thank you speech, HUDC Committee presented Mehtab with a card and gift of appreciation for all her hard work and passion in supporting HUDC.
As a result of the AGM, some people came forward as candidates and as a result of vote, it was declared that Nicola Benn has been elected as Co- vice chair and Nirujan Kilington and Ash Kumar elected to the board of committee members – many congratulation to Nicola, Nirujan and Ash from everyone at HUDC.
