Asif Iqbal MBE, President of Harrow United Deaf Club was stunned to receive a personal letter from the Minister of State for Disabled People with the following message and the Prime Minister joined him in applauding the work at Harrow United Deaf Club. It is very heart-warming for the Deaf Club to be recognised at the ministerial level.
Rt Hon Mike Penning MP, Minister of State for Disabled People:
“Both I and the Prime Minister are committed to doing all that we can to help disabled people overcome the barriers that prevent them on a daily basis from living independent lives, enjoying full and equal participation in society, and reaching their full potential just like anyone else. This Government is therefore passionate about working to partnership with the broadest cross-section of people and organisations to ensure that all disabled people get the support they deserve and so we applaud the very worthwhile work that the Harrow United Deaf Club undertakes.
You and your dedicated colleagues make tremendous difference to so many lives, not just the provision of specialist support to deaf people and their families but through the promotion of greater awareness and understanding on the part of the wider population. This is invaluable and quite frankly, is not something that any Government could ever hope to accomplish on its own.
I hope that the celebrations were a great success and look forward to future opportunities to work with you. In the meantime, the Prime Minister joins me in offering our heartfelt thanks for all your hard work along with our very best wishes for the future”
