A special event – UN International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination Reception took place on Wednesday 15th March 2017 at the Speaker’s House, House of Common, with a kind permission from Mr Speaker, Rt Hon John Bercow. The event was sponsored by The Voice newspaper and JN Bank.
The event was well attended with people from all sections of the communities including VIP Baroness Doreen Lawrence, mum of Stephen Lawrence; Baroness Flo Benjamin, several MPs, community leaders and business leaders. The event was opened by the host – Dawn Butler MP, Shadow Minister for Diversities Communities, followed by an inspirational role model, Reverend Rose Hudson-Wilkin who was the first Black Woman as a Reverend Priest in the UK. Everyone was moved by the St. Michael’s Children Choir as children aged 4-5years old were dressed in their choir gown and graduate hat touched everyone’s heart.
The event ended with a positive message from the Prime Minister, showing her support to eliminate racial discrimination and to promote unity.
