Asif Iqbal MBE, President of Harrow and Brent United Deaf Club was pleasantly surprised when a fan spotted a Transport for London Poster in EastEnders programme with Asif Iqbal’s quote, which was displayed at the bus stop filmed.
Asif would like to say many congratulations to the Eastenders team for promoting diversity within the society and including deaf people within your programme.
Asif was invited to meet Jon Sen, Executive Producer (newly appointed Executive Producer of EastEnders as of December 2018). It was good to meet with him and encourage him to consider having deaf people involved the programme to show we are an equal and divers society. I taught him to use British Sign Language – “EASTENDERS”, He is a fast learner and has a good sense of humour.
Jon Sen, currently Executive Producer has nearly 15 years’ experience writing, directing and producing continuing dramas, including working on Holby, Casualty and EastEnders. Other directing credits include Frances Tuesday, starring Tamsin Outhwaite for ITV; Waterloo Road for BBC One; Stan for BBC Four and the award-winning landmark British Asian drama Second Generation for Channel 4.
