Dawn Butler MP, Asif Iqbal and Wayne Barrow visited Brent

Dawn Butler MP, Ambassador of Harrow & Brent United Deaf Club (HBUDC), Asif Iqbal, President of HBUDC and Wayne Barrow, BBC Radio Presenter were delighted to visit Brent area as part of promoting the International Deaf Week and met Ahmed Muwadi, Specialist Team Leader for Looking Ahead – Care & Housing support’s Deaf care support Service.

Asif Iqbal MBE was so impressed after learning more about the Deaf Care Support Services (within Looking Ahead organisation) and the support the organisation provides. “Ahmed explaining about their services, supporting deaf resident in Brent area, I was so impressed to hear how Ahmed and his team work closely with deaf people, enabling them to be fully supported, promoting their well-being and working with deaf people with additional needs – helping them to make individual choices, achieve their goals and take control of their own lives by providing tailor-made support, care and accommodation services.

Not many people are aware of the Looking Ahead’s Deaf Care Support service and the housing needs of deaf residents where deaf people in need of support. This is big gap and it is essential for us to work in partnership with the local deaf communities and work with Brent Council to make use of the service available.

Also during the visit, Asif got to know Wayne Barrow and learnt more about his work. Wayne explained that he grew up in a Deaf family – his parents are Deaf and his passion for BSL through sign singing and is currently campaigning for BSL to be part of the National Curriculum.
