Harrow & Brent United Deaf Club are proud and wish to express their heartfelt congratulation to their Committee member Dikmaya Pun. Dikmaya, an inspiring Deaf Model, was invited to a prestigious Top Model UK’s event on 7th April 2018 which took place in London and succeeded in raising over £2000 for Children with Cancer charity.
Here is her open letter, thanking everyone for all support given to Dikmaya through her journey:
“Hello, all my family, friends, relatives and all concerned,
Firstly I would like to give a big thank you to all who voted and donated for me. I am also thankful to the Top Model UK for accepting me and giving me an opportunity.
Remember “ Deaf people can do anything”. I always dreamt of being a model since I was a small kid. I still want to try and achieve my dream.
I’ve tried contacting numerous model companies but they won’t offer me any chance because I am deaf. It was a barrier that let me down several times, but I never gave up and stayed positive. I researched and found out about the Top Model UK. I applied and then they accepted me. I was over the moon that I was participating in this modelling competition.
I had a lot of practice during Coaching day and Fitting/Rehearsals Day which helped me be more confident. It was a wonderful experience. I met some models and we had good laugh. They were very friendly regardless of my hearing problem.
I was lucky to have found Sanjay and Richard volunteering as BSL Interpreters. Sanjay came with me on the Coaching day and it went well. Richard did come on two events ( Fitting/Rehearsals and competition final). Both of them were outstanding. Richard was a brilliant BSL Interpreter to my deaf friends explaining every event. Therefore, I could not ask him to come backstage. I thanked a lady for signing for me at the backstage and helping me out who turned out to be Nicola Bayley, the Backstage Director. Richard also gained a lot of experience because he had never been to anything like this before. He was very pleased that I invited him to come.
Georgina [appeared in 1st photo above with Dikmaya] and I received Charity Public Vote Award for raising over £2000. I can’t believe what I’ve achieved!
I respect Top Model UK team for all the hard work they put to bring together the programme so magnificently at the Final Day.
I will plan to do something next soon. You will see and be surprised soon.
