Harrow and Brent United Deaf Club and UK Deaf Sport for working together to joint fund this project called “Connecting Communities to keep fit and focus on well-being”
Producing a series of exercises via BSL Live stream (recorded into BSL clips) our Deaf trainer Beth Kelly provides keep fit exercises together with information and advice on how to keep fit and well, how to look after your health and well-being, also where to go for further support. The series of videos will be focusing on 6 key areas of exercise.
The video will then go on the Harrow and Brent United Deaf Club website where our members can continue to learn about different types of exercises from where they are (e.g.: at home or with friends/ family) and where to go for further support. This is aimed at our members and local Deaf residents who have been extremely isolated and in need of support. This in turn will empower Deaf people to become independent and make informed choices based on BSL-accessible information.
The website was launched by Councillor Jane Mote, Mayor of Harrow, Richard Webb Steven (who received the Queen’s Birthday Honour to recognize his 23 years working with London Ambulance Service) Deputy Lieutenant Simon Ovens, Asif Iqbal MBE President to join us to press the live launch now.
Asif Iqbal, President of Harrow and Brent United Deaf Club, ” We are delighted to work in partnership with UK Deaf Sport to deliver BSL videos for our Deaf residents and give them the empowerment as to how to look after their health through online resources equipped with BSL and subtitles which can benefit everyone, whether staying at home or to share through local communities. We are working together to promote access to health and make sure that the Deaf and Hard of Hearing people have access and inclusion in their local health services. It is our duty to adhere to the BSL Act which was recently passed in March 2022 and was enforced on 28th June 2022 to make every service accessible to all. “
