Harrow United Deaf Club’s 5th Anniversary Celebration & CELEBRITY launched HUDC website
The sun shone in celebration of Harrow United Deaf Club’s Anniversary Celebration with a fantastic turnout of over 150 guests, which took place on Saturday 7th June 2014 at an exclusive C&L Country Club, Northolt.
The day began with arrival of our guests who had their photos taken at our special HUDC banner stand before being greeted with scrumptious Indian buffet. The venue was beautifully decorated with round tables around the dance floor and the main stage, with a singer Omoyele Thomas who gave us special performances throughout the afternoon of 6 empowering songs including:
‘Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher’; ‘Put A Little Love in Your Heart’; ‘Search For The Hero Inside Yourself’; ‘Next To Me’; ‘Shine’; and ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’.
After an initial performance from Omoyele, HUDC’s Patrons – John Purnell GM QPM DL and Margaret Purnell gave a welcome speech and the guests were taken through a brief history of the Deaf Club and the achievements in the last five years by our Chairperson Samir Gathani.
Councillor Jean Lammimant, past Mayor of Harrow Council gave a brief speech about how delighted she is to be part of the celebration and shared her experience as a parent of a deaf child.
The guests were wowed with a delightful beautiful handmade cake donated by the Cake Chef Hasnian Somji. He told us how proud he was so proud to have made this creation for our Deaf Club 5th Anniversary and the cake provided fantastic photo opportunity for our guests to have their photos taken.
Not only it stopped there, HUDC was delighted to receive fantastic news – a generous donation of £5000 toward the Deaf Club’s cause.
There were some special presentations in recognition of people who support our Harrow United Deaf Club. Harrow United Deaf Club are pleased to announce the winner of ‘Harrow United Deaf Club’s Special Award of Appreciation’, presented to Cate Gordon, Participant Officer of Harrow Arts Centre ‘in recognition for her Outstanding dedication in improving deaf people’s access to Harrow Arts Centre’. Cate Gordon, Cate has been passionate about opening up accessibility to Harrow Arts Centre and worked closely with Asif Iqbal, President of Harrow United Deaf Club & Harrow Arts Centre Ambassador. We were so pleased with the success on one of her project, a Christmas Panto with BSL interpreter on side of stage, providing full access to deaf people and families alike – a first of its kind for Harrow Arts Centre. Cate also runs projects working with deaf children on arts and exploring creativity.Congratulation Cate, keep up the good work!
From there, the guests were in a special treat with a special visit from a celebrity ‘Just Dance TV Star – Karan Pangali who launched Harrow United Deaf Club’s NEW website. The website is hailed as vibrant, interactive and colourful with lots of visual appeal for our diverse members of all backgrounds, including regular updates of news and events. Karan gave his speech as the prestigious event and said: “Thank you to President of Harrow United Deaf Club, Asif Iqbal for inviting me as our Guest speaker to launch a BRAND NEW website. I am thrilled and honoured to launch Harrow United Deaf Club’s website, a fantastic colourful website with sense of unity, enabling all of our diverse communities to access to a central source of information and to keep up to date of the Deaf Club’s future events. On the website, there are some special features including Inspiring Role Model, News page, Event gallery of previous events and many more.”

Karan was a hit with all of our guests when he demonstrated some basic dance moves and got all guests on their feet. Everyone was having so much fun.
The afternoon rounded off with some special performances from Rochford Irish Dance Group, consisting of 12 young girls who wowed us with their performance; Nadia Choudhury who performed Bengali dance about the beauty of the world; an Inspirational Role Model: Premi Pushpalingham, England Ladies Football player who shared her experience of the recent match where she won Bronze Medal in the Deaflympics game at Sofia, Bulgaria in March 2014 and a final performance from our singer Omoyele Thomas. Everyone left, feeling so high.
Asif Iqbal MBE, President of Harrow United Deaf Club summed up the day and exclaimed: “It has been fantastic achievement for the last 5 years and to top it all, Harrow United Deaf Club have achieved so much and the hard work have paid off. We are extremely grateful to Hasnian Somji for the donation of the cake, which went down as a treat for everyone!; a special thanks to the donor who donated us a generous amount in his will and we will continue with the legacy of giving something back to the community; also massive thanks to everyone who supported the events including our performers who donated their time in giving everyone a wonderful time and everyone who were involved in organising the event – we couldn’t have done it without your support.
