Simon Ovens, DL, HM The Queen’s Representative Deputy Lieutenant for the London Borough of Harrow

Harrow and Brent United Deaf Club are delighted to announce that Simon Ovens, DL, HM The Queen’s Representative Deputy Lieutenant for the London Borough of Harrow is now appointed as our new Patron. We would like to say a HUGE thank you to both John Purnell and Margaret Purnell, our former Patrons who were dedicated to attending our monthly events and supporting our Deaf club.

Our new website was launched during the Queen Jubilee event on Saturday 2nd July 2022, officially by Simon Ovens DL, HM The Queen’s Representative Deputy Lieutenant for the London Borough of Harrow. We are thankful to our funder Harrow Giving Health and Wellbeing Fund for supporting our event and our new website.

Asif Iqbal MBE, President welcomes the news: “I am looking forward to working with our new Patron Simon Ovens, who is hard of hearing and currently uses hearing aids. Simon is honoured to take on the role of Patron and hopes to use his experiences to empathise with deaf and hard-of-hearing residents. I hope that Simon will serve as a positive role model for the wider community. A great example was that Simon started his speech in British Sign Language that he just learnt “Welcome to Queen ‘s Jubilee” and this has won the hearts of our members.”
